In high school , many tzofim join the Gadna , the youth corps of the Israeli armed forces . ( Gadna is short for Gedudei Noar , “ Youth Battalions . ” ) In the Gadna , young men and women learn about their responsibility to defend their country . Some teenagers volunteer as madrichim , or leaders , for the younger children in the tzofim . Enter tainment and Sports Israeli kids enjoy spending time with their h . evrah and watching television , just like kids all around the world . They also enjoy attending soccer and basketball games , going to movies and concerts , and listening to CDs . Israeli kids listen to music from Europe , North America , South America , Africa , and Asia , in styles ranging from classical to folk to pop to hip-hop and rock . They also enjoy the music of Israeli singers , songwriters , and musicians . One of the most popular is Noa , an Israeli-born , American-raised daughter of Yemenite parents . Noa , who spent much of her childhood in New York City , began writing songs at the age of eight . Her unique mixture of Israeli-American music has attracted fans in Japan , France , Italy , Spain , the Netherlands , and other countries around the world .
