The village of Neve Shalom , or Wahat al Salam in . Arabic , was founded as a model of how Arab and Jewish families can live in harmony . For example , all the children in Neve Shalom attend the same primary schools . There are Arab as well as Jewish teachers , and the history , culture , language , and religion of both Arabs and Jews are taught . Turn to the map on page 4 and label Neve Shalom by writing its name next to the dove . Neve Shalom lies southwest of a major city . Can you name it ? What Do You Think ? The prophet Isaiah said , "My people shall dwell in an oasis of peace" ( Isaiah 32 : 18 ) . An oasis is a fertile spot with fresh water in the middle of a desert . Neve Shalom means "Oasis of Peace . " Do you think it is a good name for this community ? Why or why not ? Most schools in Israel are either all Jewish or all Arab . Arab and Druze children attend schools where they study their own history , religion , and culture . Their classes are taught in Arabic , although all students also learn Hebrew .
