Today , there are about 270 kibbutzim in Israel . The top two kibbutz industries are tourism and plastics , and high-tech industries are on the rise . While kibbutz members still share responsibilities and help care for one another , many seek more privacy and individuality than in earlier times . For example , on most kibbutzim members no longer eat all their meals together , and children now live with their parents . Visitors from all over the world—Sweden , Nigeria , Argentina , the United States , the Philippines , Holland , and France , Jews and non-Jews—live and work on kibbutzim for several weeks or months to learn about this unique way of life .
