Jerusalem is also home to Yad Vashem , a memorial , museum , and research library dedicated both to the Jews who were murdered in the Holocaust and to the heroic people who risked their lives to save Jews . The Avenue of the Righteous Gentiles honors the non-Jewish heroes who showed such bravery . The Children’s Memorial of Yad Vashem is dedicated to the memory of the children who died in the Holocaust . It is a theater , dark except for many tiny points of light , or “ stars . ” Each star represents the life of a child who was killed in the Holocaust . The children’s names are continuously read aloud on an audiotape so that their memory is kept alive .
