We can enter the Old City through the Jaffa Gate , one of the busiest of the seven open gates that are built into the Old City’s walls . First we pass the Tower of David , then continue down a narrow street and down the hill , until we turn right to reach the Western Wall , or Hakotel Hama’aravi . The Western Wall is a supporting wall of the Second Temple . It is often referred to simply as Hakotel , or the Wall . Some people call the Kotel the “ Wailing Wall , ” because many Jews have cried when they prayed there .
