13 My Way, Teacher's Guide to practice the same way by coming up to the board and reading the word or by opening their books and practicing the word . Some activities to practice sight words : Write the word multiple times in different places on the board . Point to it and ● have students read . Make a memory game with sight words and have students play, reading the ● words aloud and finding the two that match . Some suggested extension activities : Use the letter flashcards to call out words and have students spell the words with their . 1 cards . Students who are not yet ready to prepare their own cards can have a set made for them . Write a word on the board with a letter missing . Say the word . Have students say . 2 which sound is missing . Write the corresponding letter or have a student write the letter in the missing spot . This helps improve sound - letter correlation . Reading comprehension Reading is a combination of both decoding words and understanding, or comprehension . As students become more fluent in their reading, their brains are better able to focus on comprehension . In My Way, we start with students reading basic CVC words and matching them to pictures to ensure that comprehension comes along with decoding . These connections are reinforced throughout the lesson . As students move into reading sentences and texts, they are initially shown single sentences with matching pictures .
