The scouts , or tzofim , wear colorful neckerchiefs and khaki uniforms that are similar to those worn by scouts in the United States . Unlike scouts in the United States , Israeli boys and girls belong to the same scout troops . Tzofim meet after school and on weekends . They hike , do volunteer work , visit museums , and go on overnight trips . Sitting around the campfire , they discuss everything from current events to their favorite TV shows . Popular after-school group activities include soccer , karate , dance , and ceramics . These activities are called h . ugim , or clubs . Of course , a favorite , unofficial after-school activity is hanging out with your h . evrah or circle of friends .
