Beersheva Beersheva is more than 4 , 000 years old and is mentioned many times in the Bible . When Israel won its independence in 1948 , Beersheva was a hot , sleepy frontier town . It was the last place for miles around to get water , food , and other supplies . There were few buildings and even fewer modern conveniences . The citizens of Beersheva looked as if they had stepped out of a movie about the Wild West : rugged , sunburned , and tough . There is an ice-skating rink in Beersheva —a desert city ! At the Bedouin Heritage Center near Beersheva you can stop for tea , lunch , or dinner and eat a typical Bedouin meal while sitting in a Bedouin tent . The animal hospital outside of Beersheva has a camel clinic . There are many fun and interesting places in and around Beersheva , such as the caves of H . orvat Za’ak , the Negev Museum , the Ethiopian Arts Center , the Beersheva Arts Center , the Beersheva Theater , the zoo , Luna Negev Amusement Park and Pool , the Tennis Center , the Israel Air Force Museum , Tel Sheva Archaeological Excavations , Kashvan Horseback Riding Center , and Golda Park , where you can fish . But Liat said that there’s no time to take you there . You’ll have to wait until your next visit to Israel ! The Torah tells us that Jacob "set out with all that was his , and he came to Beersheva , where he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac" ( Genesis 46 : 1 ) . Today , Beersheva is home to Jews from all around the world and to many Bedouin––the nomadic , or wandering , Arab tribes of the desert . This Bedouin woman is wearing a traditional face covering .
