Our tradition teaches that wherever we pray , we face toward Jerusalem because the Temple was there . And we end the Passover seder by saying , “ Next year in Jerusalem ! ” Jerusalem is built on several mountains . From the west and east , the roads leading to the city are curved and steep . As you drive up , you can feel the car struggling to reach the top . The modern part of the city spreads out for miles and miles , and there are buildings as far as the eye can see . The Talmud teaches that God gave ten measures of beauty to the world . Jerusalem took nine , and the rest of the world got just one . What do you think this Talmudic saying means ?
