Section Task : Arrival Writing an email about a travel experience A friend has sent you the email below . Write an email in reply , where you describe a misunderstanding based on not knowing enough about the local culture of the country you are visiting . Hi ! Long time no hear ! How are you enjoying your travels ? I'm sure you ' re having a wonderful time and having some interesting experiences . We ' re all waiting to hear about what you're doing and how you ' re getting on there . Please don ' t forget us , your less fortunate friends here at home :- ) and take some time to write . Bye for now , Amy 1 . In your email to Amy , give an explanation of a social convention or custom of your destination country that a tourist might find confusing . 2 . Describe an incident which reflects the mistakes or mix-ups that occurred because you did not know about this social convention . Specify where the incident took place ( e . g . on a bus , at a restaurant , in the street , as a guest in someone ' s house ) and what happened . Use the excerpts on page 24 as models . 3 . Read over what you have written and make corrections , using a spell-checker if necessary . 4 . Submit your email to two partners for assessment , one who has chosen the same destination country as you and one who has chosen a different destination country . Your partners will assess your work using the rubric on 99 . ^ ^ The following checklist shows what you should have in your completed task . In my email , 1 described where the incident took place and what happened . I explained how the misunderstanding took place because 1 did not know about a local custom in my destination country . I described the local custom . My style ofwriting is informal and appropriate for an email to a friend . I read over what I wrote , checked my spelling and grammar and made corrections as necessary .
