336 My Way, Teacher's Guide Extension activity ideas : Have students continue practicing writing the new letter ( upper and lowercase ) in . 1 their notebooks . Create a school treasure map and mark “X” where students can find a special treat . . 2 Suggested review extension : Students can give one another directions how to get to the marked spot . Print out large blank X pages ( see suggested sources in Appendix C, TG page 371 ) and . 3 have students decorate them . These can be hung as a class gallery, taken home, or kept in folders for students to assemble into an alphabet book at the end of the year . Some ideas : X - ray X’s : Give students clear paper like doctors use to see bones . They ● can draw on their x - ray with white or light blue colors . They can draw bones or things you would see in an x - ray . Treasure Map X’s : Make the / X / look old like a pirate's treasure map . ● Use tea bags to make the paper look old . Draw a map to find the treasure with a big / X / where the treasure is . They can also make up a story about the treasure . Xylophone X’s : Let students color their / X / to look like a xylophone, ● using many colors . They can use markers or paper . Talk about how a xylophone sounds and how it is played . Use You Tube to show a video of xylophones being played . For more information on teaching letters and writing, see TG, Letters, page 23 . Pg . 211, Exercise 4 : Listen, cut and glue . Have students cut out the pictures of words from the side of the page . ● Name the pictures with students . ● Have students write the last letter of each word they hear in the box . ● Have students glue the cutouts in the marked spaces as directed by the audio . ● Have students place the pictures in the right boxes, so they have enough time ○ between words . Then, have them glue the pictures down after the audio .
