26 My Way, Teacher's Guide Exercise 1 : Students practice reading the new words using the new letter sound and phonetic rules . Have students take turns reading the new words out loud and silently . In Unit 2, instruct students to sound out the individual phonemes and then blend them together to create a word . In Units 3 - 5, the concept of letter chunks and word families is introduced . Individual challenge : Students who are ready can write the target reading words in their notebooks and draw corresponding pictures . Exercise 2 : Students practice reading new words for meaning . Exercise 3 : Students read a short story . Have students take turns reading the sentences out loud and silently to themselves . Instruct students to look at the pictures, helping them read for comprehension . There are suggested questions to promote reading comprehension throughout the Teacher’s Guide Units .
